Richard Alan Nichols

Richard Alan Nichols is a nationally recognized artist with a strong background in traditional impressionism. During his tenure at the prestigious American Academy of Art in Chicago, he was the recipient of numerous scholarships, grants and awards. He holds degrees from the Academy in both fine and commercial art. Acutely aware of the delicate hues created by light, Richard strives to render, in his words, "a visual poem" with each painting. He is philosophical about his work, always keeping in mind his favorite quote: "Art is the representation of that which the mind can imagine - but only the heart knows to be true."

Whether rendered in oil, charcoal or watercolor, Richard's works are much sought after by collectors, who are captivated by his atmospheric color theories, warm sensitive approach, and dynamic juxtapositions of color and composition. In addition to many private collections, Richard's paintings are in the permanent collections of the American Academy of Art, The Town of Taos, Holy Cross Hospital, Caylor Nickel Medical Center, Inc., Ernst Whitney, Sears, Roebuck & Company, the universities of Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota and Missouri, the National Bank of Brookfield, Chicago's Brookfield Zoo, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Marmion Academy.

He has exhibited in numerous National Juried Exhibitions across the nation, including those of the Oil Painteres of America, Art for the Parks Exhibition, Taos Invites Taos, and The Salon International (partial list) etc. Awarded in many National Exhibitions including becoming a signature member of the Oil Painters of America and receiving awards at The Arts for the Parks Nati0onal Exhibitions to name a few. Richard, his wife, and their children live nestled in the foothills of Taos, New Mexico.
